About The Studio
Madeleine Stewart Studio is a bespoke woodwork and furniture company created to fulfill a need for well made, handcrafted home goods. In a society overflowing with short lived objects there is a great responsibility in bringing new “goods” into being. The following tenants guide the company in its production of furniture and woodwork.
Tenants of the Studio
Objects created are to be ethical in their manufacture. This means sourcing sustainably harvested lumber and opting for adhesives and finishes with low or zero VOCs. We will also work to continually research the best options for a maintaining a small and eco friendly footprint.
Madeleine Stewart Studio creates goods that, with proper care, will last for generations. This statement is made in regard to the craftsmanship, and the design of pieces. Although varying in aesthetic, an effort will be made to create outside of trends, and within a perspective of timelessness.
Work should be beautiful. This tenant applies to multiple factions of the company. The act of woodworking and making should bring joy to those who are making it. Fine woodworking can be meditative and pleasant, it can be tedious and wearing, but ultimately the act of making should feel worthwhile. Everyone involved in the company, including customers, should feel that their contribution has a positive impact.
The work itself should also be beautiful. Though beauty is up for interpretation, Madeleine Stewart Studio manifests beauty in fine craftsmanship, timeless design, tactile surfaces, and thoughtful details. Herein lies the ultimate goal, and that is, to leave the world a more beautiful place than how we found it.
